Aroura's Events
Aroura is building strong momentum through recent global soil security events and exciting initiatives ahead. Following two successful Soil Security Summits that brought together experts from around the world, we have advanced key policy principles, strengthened international collaboration, and contributed to the growing call for a global soil convention.
In the months to come, Aroura will launch new panel discussions, stakeholder workshops, and prepare for the soil forum in 2026. We will also release key discussion papers on national soil security strategies and global governance pathways.
Stay connected with us as we continue driving soil security forward and expanding opportunities for global engagement.

GSS6 – Soil Security and Health Advances
June 15-18, 2027 (University of Cordoba, Spain)
Soil security and soil health sit at the intersection of science, practice, and policy. This conference has been designed to reflect that integration – bringing together advances in measurement and monitoring, insights from agricultural and natural systems, perspectives from landholders, and emerging approaches in education, governance, and law. Across four days, the program deliberately weaves these themes together, encouraging exchange across traditional boundaries and fostering conversations that extend beyond individual disciplines.
GSS6 continues the Global Soil Security Conference series by emphasising both scientific rigour and real-world relevance. We are especially pleased to feature keynote speakers who will challenge and inspire us, contributed talks that showcase cutting-edge research and practice, and poster sessions that create space for discussion, reflection, and collaboration. We will take you to the field to look at soil security and health in action.
We hope this symposium provides not only a forum for sharing knowledge, but also an opportunity to build connections, generate new ideas, and strengthen our collective commitment to securing soil for present and future generations.
More details to follow in the next three months.

Past Events
DEC 25 - World Soil Day
This year, World Soil Day focused on soil security and urban soil health.
On this occasion, we released three pieces of content exploring why securing soil is not limited to rural areas, but essential for all soils, including those in cities. These included:
- A webinar explaining the importance of soil security in urban environments
- A short production highlighting soil security in the city
- A longer artistic piece offering a creative perspective on soil security
OCT 25 - 2nd Global Soil Security Summit
At the second Soil Security Summit, held in Sydney from 14–17 October, 2025, members of Aroura reviewed the Think Tank’s progress and reaffirmed that soil remains undervalued in global discussions despite its central role in addressing major environmental crises. Participants agreed that soil security itself is an existential challenge and highlighted the need for a dedicated global convention to protect soil. They also reflected on Aroura’s achievements over the past year—from publishing key policy papers to promoting soil security at international events and supporting the adoption of the IUCN Soil Security Law Resolution. The Summit focused on next steps, including developing a template for national soil security strategies, advancing work toward a global soil convention, and creating new avenues for wider stakeholder engagement, such as the upcoming Friends of Soil Security initiative.
4 DAYS
For four days, experts were gathered together to discuss soil security and advance the Think Tank mission.

Those sessions played a crucial role in advancing soil and soil security on the global agenda and exploring what it would take to achieve an international soil security convention.
17 COUNTRIES
Experts came from Australia, United Kingdom, United States of America, South Korea, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Brazil, Scotland, Indonesia, India, France, Iran, Colombia & Chile.
5 CONTINENTS

SEPT 25 - Soil security Webinars with Save Soil
We recently co-hosted together with Save Soil (Isha Outreach, IUCN Member) and the IUCN WCEL, a 3-part Soil Security panel series as part of the global Save Soil – Soil Conversations initiative. The series explored soil as a key leverage point for biodiversity, restoration, and climate resilience, introduce the Soil Security Framework, and highlight scientific, socio-economic, and legal pathways to strengthen soil stewardship and advance soil governance at national and global levels.
OCT 24 - Inaugural Global Soil Security Summit
The first Global Soil Security Summit, held from 15–17 October 2024, was a truly energising moment for the soil community. Experts from across the world came together for open, engaging discussions on how we can better protect and value soil. Instead of formal talks, the Summit created space for genuine exchange and collective thinking, leading to a shared understanding of what soil security means and why it matters. Participants called for stronger policies, better ways to recognise the economic and social value of soil, and even a global legal instrument to safeguard it. The excitement and collaboration at the Summit also inspired the creation of a new Soil and Soil Security Think Tank to carry this momentum forward.
